Carp vs. Logic

What is it about these fish that lures you into places any sensible person would avoid like the plague?

I mean, seriously...quicksand, leeches, mosquitoes, rattlesnakes, questionable roads leading to desolate areas with no lifeline to civilization, blown out tires, intense heat, ornery cattle and unpredictable weather?  Why?
